The fourth player in college football history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season,聽Rashaan Salaam聽(Soc鈥96) did so in an 11-game campaign in 1994 that included six ranked opponents. He led the nation in rushing, scoring and all-purpose yards, leading CU to an 11-1 record and winning the Heisman Trophy, CU鈥檚 first and only, the Doak Walker Award and the Walter Camp Trophy. For these accomplishments, Rashaan was inducted into the Colorado Athletic Hall of Fame at the Coors Events Center last fall. He resides in San Diego, Calif.

Adventure and travel photographer聽Lucas Gilman聽(Jour鈥00) captured the moment extreme kayaker Rafa Ortiz paddled down Palouse Falls, a 189-foot waterfall in southeast 开心鬼传媒. The photograph was for his client Red Bull, and Lucas used his Nikon D800 camera, which produces super-high-resolution 36.3 megapixels to capture the four-second free fall. His other clients include such magazines as聽Sports Illustrated, National Geographic Adventure聽补苍诲听Outside Magazine聽and his commercial clients include such companies as Nikon, Patagonia and SanDisk. At the University of Michigan聽Nghi Nguyen-Phuoc聽(Econ, EnvSt鈥00) received the Barbour Scholarship for the 2012-13 academic year. The scholarship is among the most prestigious to support women at Michigan from Asia who demonstrate the highest academic and professional caliber. Nghi is pursuing a doctorate in urban and regional planning. Her dissertation focuses on the legal and compulsory taking of land and houses from urban residents and businesses in order to build new infrastructure, commercial or residential projects. After graduation she hopes to work in planning research and urban development in Vietnam.

U.S. paratriathlete聽Melissa Hoffman Stockwell聽(Comm鈥02) won a gold medal, helping the Americans win the overall medal count at the ITU Paratriathlon World Championship in Auckland, New Zealand. The paratriathlon was a 300-meter swim, 20K bike and a 5K run which Melissa finished with a time of 1:22:14. This was her third consecutive world title. Melissa lives in Chicago. She lost part of her leg while serving in Iraq in 2004.

Former CU football player聽Joe Garten聽(Soc鈥02) was part of the 2012 Colorado Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Class and received recognition at the ceremony in November. He was one of the first three unanimous All-Americans in CU history and was a consensus first-team All-American as a junior and a two-time unanimous first-team All-Big Eight performer as a junior and senior. Joe was runner-up for the Outland Trophy and holds the school record for the most starts by an offensive player. Joe resides in Yorba Linda, Calif.

Physician鈥檚 assistant聽Rebekah Kaskubar聽(MCDBio鈥03) was on Semester at Sea during fall 2001. She said she had a terrific experience and the best debriefing was a returnee workshop to let the students who had been abroad during 9/11 discuss the tragedy with one another.
