Updates to Our Pride Month Message
In our message last week, we encouraged you to learn about and celebrate the history of Pride Month. We also spent some time ourselves looking deeper and, as a result, need to clarify one statement included in the message.
In the email, we identified Marsha P. Johnson as a Black trans woman who first took a stand against police brutality at the Stonewall uprising. Johnson used female pronouns and self-identified as gay, a drag queen and a transvestite, but the word “transgender” wasn’t commonly used at the time. We also learned from a reader that inan interview in,Johnsonherself said she wasn't at the riot at its beginning but arrived later. We’veupdated the message to reflect this.

Return-to-Campus Guidance for Staff
As we look to return to campus to support our students and our mission, the College of Engineering and Applied Science will be piloting a hybrid work approach for engineering staff.The Return-to-Campus Guidance webpage covers several topics to help staff and their supervisors prepare for their return to work this fall, including hybrid work guidelines, space allocation and more. Researcher Awards
Svenja Knappe and Cindy Regal of Rady Mechanical Engineering received a two-year, $1.83 million award (option for two more years at $1.8 million) from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency for “Integrated Vector-Scalar Atomic Magnetometer.”
Bowen Li, a postdoctoral researcher in electrical, computer and energy engineering with Shu-Wei Huang’s lab, has received the for his recent work in CU Boulder.
Michael Toney and Seth Marder of chemical and biological engineering and RASEI received a three-year award for $669,000 from the Office of Naval Research for “The Development of Scalable Materials and Processes for OPV Modules.”
