BCycle sets new records! In 2023 there were a total of 708,000 trips, an increase of 52% over 2022’s 467,000�� trips. The growth was even more striking this year compared to 2019, which shows an increase of 570% over 2019’s 105,600 trips which was before BCycle bikes were electric and CU students had free passes.

Lime topped 5,700 rides on football game day against the Colorado State Rams. City wide expansion led to 260,351 rides from Sept. 1- Dec. 31. (94,256 trip starts on CU property)

It was a huge year for bus and transit:

• 40,000+ bus passes were transitioned from the CollegePass and EcoPass to the Buff OneCard, which will keep thousands of plastic RFID cards out of the landfill annually. This upgrade also made your wallet or purse a bit less bulky, and made managing activation and deactivation far more efficient!��
• The new $95 semester pass program was introduced for CU affiliates that are not eligible for free access — making low cost bus rides more accessible.

Two new 100% electric buses were added to the Buff Bus fleet in 2023, and were named “Buff-E the Emissions Slayer” and “​ Ralphie Runner.” These buses will have a significant positive impact on the environment over their lifetimes compared to the diesel buses they replaced.

Carshare goes electric at Williams Village! Colorado Carshare added an all-electric vehicle that can be rented hourly or daily by students, faculty and staff at reduced rates. In addition, a charging station has been added, which is equipped with two charging ports, one for the carshare vehicle and one for campus constituents to charge privately owned EVs.

NightRide avoided burning an estimated 1,500 gallons of gas thanks to electrification of their fleet, including 4 electric Chevy Bolts named after the characters in the movie Cars (Lightning McQueen, Sally Carrera, Doc Hudson and Tow Mater.)��

The Distribution Center helped campus avoid burning 960 gallons of gas in 2023 thanks to the addition of an all electric Ford Transit delivery van and a Chevy Bolt used for trips to CU Denver.

CU partnered with the City of Boulder on a multi-year project to redesign the , the first fully protected intersection of its kind in the United States…plus it has an underpass! Just a few blocks to the south, to enhance safety for cyclists at Williams Village.

Parking Services has added options for employees to purchase permits by moving to a 100% online purchasing tool, while simultaneously adding flexibility for those driving occasionally by providing a lower cost $5 a day parking option for CU Boulder affiliates.

Free vanpool leads to spike in membership! Participation in the program grew more than 20% thanks to financial support from , which provides free vanpooling for frontline service employees.

��Ever wondered what impact COVID had on our commuting behaviors? You can find out by digging into our survey report of CU Employees released in 2023. For example, the percentage of employees who reported working from home jumped from just 2% in 2017 to 32% in 2022 (i.e. reported working from home three or more days per week). Things continue to get bigger and better for the University of Colorado Boulder Athletics department. A new scoreboard at Folsom Field will be added to the south stands. This is big news for CU Football, but the construction zone is scheduled to affect access and transportation through the area on Colorado Avenue through spring and summer.

The new fare structure reduced the monthly pass from $200 to $88, while the regular 3-hour pass dropped from $3 to $2.75. Lower fares bring more affordable access and a simpler, more equitable fare structure.
