The CU-Boulder School of Law will present law Professor William Pizzi with the Clifford Calhoun Public Service Award on April 25 in recognition of his contributions to the law school and the legal community. The award is given to those who "contribute to the public service of the law school in the spirit and tradition of the contributions Professor Calhoun made in his career." An anonymous donor established the award in 1998 in honor of Calhoun, who retired that year.

The CU-Boulder entrepreneurship program was ranked 10th in the nation by faculty from around the country and 14th overall, according to Entrepreneur magazine's April 2003 edition. This was the magazine's first ranking of the 100 top entrepreneurship programs. More than 700 entrepreneurship programs nationwide were evaluated for the study. The rankings were based on more than 30 criteria, including course offerings, faculty, business-community outreach, research centers and institutes, advisory boards, off-campus programs and degrees offered.

Media studies students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at Boulder are staging a weeklong campaign titled "Operation Media Freedom" April 21-25 on the Boulder campus. According to organizers, the events are designed to inform and educate CU students and the Boulder community of the impacts of mainstream media on popular culture and coincide with National Turnoff Your TV Week.

"Em Bed With the Military: The Media at War" is the subject of a panel discussion at the University of Colorado at Boulder on April 24 at 7 p.m. in Engineering Center room 245. Scheduled panelists are Charlie Brennan, Rocky Mountain News reporter and embedded journalist who recently returned from Iraq; Vicky Sama, former CNN producer; Michael Tracey, former head of the Broadcasting Research Unit at the BBC in London and faculty member at CU-Boulder's School of Journalism and Mass Communication; and Juliet Wittman, a reporter for Westword.

The staff of the University of Colorado at Boulder's Fiske Planetarium will present the latest news about the Cassini spacecraft's mission to Saturn on Friday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the planetarium. After a seven-year journey, the spacecraft is scheduled to arrive at the planet in July 2004. Staff from the planetarium will show the latest pictures from the Cassini mission and answer questions about Saturn. The Sommers-Bausch Observatory also will be open for visitors to view Saturn, weather permitting.

The University of Colorado at Boulder Cultural Events Board will present a free public lecture Friday, April 18, by a noted champion of anti-discrimination efforts across the country. Attorney Morris Dees' presentation, "Tolerances: Has America Progressed?" will take place at the Flatirons Theater on the Hill at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Recipients of the University of Colorado at Boulder Community Builder Brick Awards will be honored at a ceremony on Wednesday, April 23, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the University Memorial Center Aspen Rooms 285-289.

Hundreds of students from throughout Colorado will be on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus to present a wide array of projects, many a year in the making, during the 22nd annual Colorado History Day. ¿ªÐÄ¹í´«Ã½ 500 students in grades six through 12 will compete in the event on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the CU-Boulder campus. The winners will move on to the National History Day competition in June. The theme of this year's competition is "Rights and Responsibilities in History."

Students at the University of Colorado at Boulder this week are celebrating Engineering Days, a week-long technology fest featuring the annual College Egg Drop, Vertical Take-off Challenge and Engineering Carnival. Co-sponsored by the University of Colorado Engineering Council, corporate sponsors, and professional engineering societies, E-Days is an annual celebration of the engineering profession and a chance for students to apply their engineering skills in fun and creative ways.
