The CU Boulder Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred Wednesday, April 2, where a classroom was disrupted by unidentified individuals, one or more of whom were removed from the classroom after being told to leave repeatedly by the instructor. A second individual who appears to be removing individuals from the class in a video of the incident was not an employee or a student.

CU Boulder condemns acts of violence and does not tolerate classroom disruptions, both of which violate state law and university policies. Our campus has long supported our campus community’s right to free expression, so long as those activities are carried out legally and in line with university policy, and do not threaten public safety. The safety of all students, faculty, staff and visitors on campus remains a top priority.

This is an active CUPD investigation, and all applicable charges and other remedies will be vigorously pursued against anyone who violates our policies and laws. Anyone with information regarding this case should contact CUPD at 303-492-6666 and reference case number 2025-0656.

While the University of Colorado Boulder continues to evaluate relevant executive orders and other decisions by the federal government that may impact higher education, we also continue to find opportunities to meaningfully communicate the impacts of how these orders may impact societal health, the economy, competitiveness and higher education at large.

Specifically, CU Boulder has:

Provided information to the Colorado Attorney General that was included in a lawsuit to block the federal government from slashing National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding.
Encouraged researchers to sign this letter aimed at protecting vital NIH funding
Signed a letter to Congress from various higher education associations encouraging Congress to reverse course on dramatic cuts to the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences
Provided information to the Colorado Congressional delegation
CUSG students combined forces with student government leaders from other Big 12 universities to lobby on Capitol Hill in ��Ĺ��ý, D.C., on behalf of higher education
Chancellor Schwartz published an op-ed in the Denver Gazette explaining and defending the facilities and administrative (F&A) costs associated with research grants.

The University of Colorado Boulder has paused its Critical Needs Hiring Program (CNHP) out of an abundance of caution and to ensure there are no ongoing gaps between university policy and the program’s implementation. A third party will conduct a full, independent and comprehensive review of the CNHP to confirm the processes are compliant with applicable laws. Its predecessor, the Faculty Diversity Action Plan, was sunsetted in 2024.

CU Boulder is aware that flyers were thrown off an interior balcony at Norlin Library on Friday, Dec. 13, at the same time that a “study in” was being held by the group Boulder Students for Justice in Palestine. The flyers called for an “immediate evacuation” of Norlin Library but also stated this was not a real evacuation notice, rather a simulation. Nonetheless, the flyers violated the university’s Campus Use of University Facilities policy on canvassing, and the CU Boulder Police Department is investigating in conjunction with the Division of Student Affairs.

Any information regarding this incident should be reported to CUPD by calling the non emergency line at 303-492-6666 and referencing Case No. 2024-2540.

All students are subject to adhering to the CU Boulder Student Code of Conduct. Any student found responsible for violating the Student Code of Conduct will be subject to appropriate sanctions.

CU Boulder has several robust processes for individuals to share concerns and request support, including several reporting options through CUPD, the Don't Ignore It website and anonymously through CU Boulder Safe2Tell. When concerns are reported, they are evaluated and addressed through tailored processes depending on the involved populations.

The University of Colorado Boulder will continue to consult with higher education associations such as the Association of American Universities (AAU), the American Council on Education (ACE) and the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities (APLU) to understand and begin preparing for any potential policy changes.

CU Boulder will continue to focus on our public mission: providing top-notch education and access and affordability to students from all walks of life, supporting our faculty in the pursuit of groundbreaking research and creative work that improves lives, and serving the residents of Colorado and the nation.

In the early morning hours of Nov. 1, several buildings on the CU Boulder campus were vandalized. The antisemitic messages contained in the vandalism violate the university’s policies on free expression and Campus Use of University Facilities, as well as Colorado law.

We are working as quickly as possible to remove the graffiti and proactively providing support resources to impacted groups on campus.

CU Boulder strongly condemns tactics and messages such as these, which target students, faculty and staff. This type of conduct is not a productive way to address the difficult conversations facing our society today in a respectful and civil manner.

Encourage opportunities to process and learn through the academic expertise of our faculty

Activate resources for mental health and wellness, dialogue and community-building needs

CU Boulder has been working closely with our conference partners as well as the NCAA throughout the settlement negotiations in the pending antitrust cases. These are unprecedented times, and these decisions will have a seismic effect on the permanent landscape of collegiate athletics. While the settlement agreement is being finalized by the courts, which could take a significant amount of time, we will determine exactly how this will impact CU Athletics and, most importantly, our student athletes.

There are many questions that will be answered in the months to come, but every decision we make will be done transparently and in the best interest of our student athletes.
