Dr. John Black, Jr.聽is a聽cryptologist,聽programmer聽and associate professor聽of computer science聽focusing on聽computer security. He graduated with a聽BA聽in computer science from California State University East Bay聽in 1988 and completed his聽PhD聽in聽cryptography聽at the University of California Davis with聽Phillip Rogaway聽in 2000. He has taught at CU Boulder since 2002. Black has been involved in the invention of several cryptographic algorithms including聽UMAC,聽PMAC,聽OCB聽and聽CMAC聽as well as algorithms related to聽Format Preserving Encryption.
