University of Colorado at Boulder management Professor John Garnand is making sure his undergraduate business students are ready for the real world by making class projects relevant to the business community.

In the spirit of Homecoming and Greek pride, CU Panhellenic Association is sponsoring the first annual Parade of Sorority Homes on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The tour of sorority houses "will allow the public a unique opportunity to view some of Boulder's most beautiful and historic homes," according to Cristin Brown, director of community relations for the Panhellenic Association.

Alumni and friends of the University of Colorado are invited to a pre-game tailgate party for the CU-Utah State football game on Sept. 19 in Boulder. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. Festivities begin at 11 a.m. on the University Club lawn and terrace at 972 Broadway, and include food, complimentary beverages and giveaways. The party will feature CU's Marching Band, Cheer Squad, Buff Gold Dance Team and Chip.

A $1.8 million grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute today to the University of Colorado at Boulder will enrich science education for hundreds of university undergraduates, as well as thousands of Denver area K-12 students.

The University of Colorado at Boulder has been selected to design, build, operate and control a NASA satellite that will study the response of Earth's Van Allen radiation belts to the powerful solar wind.

The University of Colorado at Boulder has enrolled its largest freshman class ever this fall with 4,281 first-year students entering campus, contributing to a total enrollment of 25,125. The total is up slightly from fall 1997 enrollment of 25,109. The enrollment increase continues a trend of planned, moderate increases on the Boulder campus since 1995, when total enrollment was 24,440, according to Lou McClelland, director of institutional analysis. CU-Boulder's highest ever enrollment was 25,571 in 1991.

Reunion events, the annual Homecoming Parade and a pregame Sinkburger party under the "Big Top" are highlights of the upcoming Alumni Homecoming Weekend Sept. 25-26 at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Seminars, luncheons and "FAC" (Friday Afternoon Club) parties will reunite the classes of 1953, ‘58, ‘63, ‘68, ‘73, ‘78, ‘83, ‘88 and ‘93 all day Friday, Sept. 25.

The Career Services office at the University of Colorado at Boulder will hold a Career Fair for all CU-Boulder students on Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Coors Events/Conference Center. The Career Fair will give business representatives an opportunity to provide CU students with literature regarding their companies. Students are encouraged to meet with company representatives and learn about the interviewing process.

University of Colorado at Boulder Professor William Lewis has been awarded the International Society of Limnology's highest honor for his lifetime contributions to scientific studies of lakes, ponds and rivers. A professor in the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences and in the environmental, population and organismic biology department, Lewis was honored with the prestigious Einar Naumann-August Theinemann Medal at the 27th International Limnology Congress held in Dublin, Ireland, in August.

University of Colorado at Boulder football fans will have an opportunity to attend lectures before watching the Buffs face their opponents at three home games in September, October and November. The third annual "CU Before the Game" lecture series is designed to give community members a taste of what CU offers its students. The presentations, given by professors and instructors affiliated with CU, are approximately one hour long. Fans will have a choice between two seminars before home games on Sept. 19, Oct. 10 and Nov. 14.
